Event Description

The Bethel University Education Unit (Undergraduate and Graduate Programs) is hosting a unique opportunity for all current students, alumni, colleagues of alumni, school partner educators, and partner school leaders. Included in the event will be opportunities for professional development (CEUs), networking, job/career opportunities or interviews, mingling with Bethel faculty and other alumni, and career counseling resources. Whether you are job seeking or not, this is an engaging opportunity to learn and share among other colleagues in the field of education.

Professional Development Session Option A:

Mental Health/Mental Illness in the Classroom | Presenter: Peg McCormick, Ph.D.

This one-hour professional development session begins with an overview of optimal student mental health, common threats to mental health, and the signs of early-onset mental illness. Participants will learn about the impact of toxic stress on mental health and how to respond when a student experiences a mental health crisis. The hour will conclude with hopeful perspectives on the power of relationships and suggested best practices for creating a therapeutic classroom environment that promotes safety and well-being for K-12 students who experience the challenges of compromised mental health.

Professional Development Session Option B:

Teaching as an Act of Love | Presenter: Rachel Jorgensen, M.Ed.

In this one-hour professional development session, participants will explore how to teach from a place of purpose and authenticity, creating an empowering and supportive environment for students. Educators will be guided in overcoming distractions and external pressures, focusing instead on genuine connection with students. This session will highlight the importance of teaching with love, exploring tools and strategies to foster an atmosphere of trust and respect. By the end of the session, participants will have practical strategies to enhance their teaching practice, encouraging both personal fulfillment and student growth.
